Amazon Buy Box (Featured Offer): How to Win It After the 2026 Change
Every Amazon product detail page has one spot where shoppers click Add to Cart or Buy Now. Sellers call it the Buy Box. Amazon calls the offer in it the Featured Offer, and says becoming it can be a powerful way to increase visibility and sales.
In 2026, Amazon changed who can compete for it. The seller eligibility step is gone, and offers from all sellers are now evaluated. But price, delivery, and order experience still decide who wins, and some listings show no Featured Offer at all, even with only one seller.
In this article, you'll learn what the Featured Offer is, what changed in 2026, how Amazon picks the winner, why your offer may not be featured, and a step-by-step plan to win it back.

What the Featured Offer Is
Amazon puts all sellers' offers for the same product on one product detail page. Near the top of that page is the Offer Display, sometimes called the Buy Box. The offer shown there with the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons is the Featured Offer.
Amazon picks it by evaluating all offers to find the one that's most attractive to the customer. When no single offer clearly stands out, the Featured Offer can rotate among the best offers. Up to three other offers can appear in the "Other Sellers on Amazon" box.
Details sellers often miss:
- Each variation is separate. If a product has sizes or colors, the Featured Offer is decided for each variation, so you can win it on some and not others.
- Customers can see different winners based on shipping location, Prime membership, or search filters.
- It matters even if you're the only seller. Amazon says it won't feature any offer if none of the available offers meet its customer experience requirements, even if the product has only one offer. Shoppers may then see "See options" instead of a Featured Offer.
What Changed in 2026
Amazon used to pick the Featured Offer in two steps. In a Seller Forums announcement, it explained that it first decided which sellers were eligible based on seller performance criteria, then ranked all offers from those eligible sellers.
Amazon said the first step was no longer adding value for customers, so it's removing it. The change started in July 2026 and rolls out across all Amazon stores by the end of 2026, with no action needed. Amazon's US help page now says that as of September 2026, "offers from all sellers are now eligible to be evaluated for the Featured Offer."
What did not change is how the winner is chosen. Amazon still ranks offers on competitive pricing, delivery speed, and performance, and being considered doesn't guarantee your offer will be featured.
How Amazon Picks the Featured Offer
Amazon says it ranks offers the same way for every product, with no manual overrides, using these factors:
Total Price
Amazon looks at the item price plus shipping. A lower item price, a lower shipping fee, or promotions such as coupons can improve your chances. If you're planning a discount, our guide to Amazon coupons, deals, and Prime Exclusive Discounts explains the options and their fees.
Delivery Promise and Free Shipping
Faster offers, and offers with a specific delivery date instead of a range, are more likely to be featured. Free shipping matters too. Amazon's own example: a $40 offer with free shipping is preferable to a $35 offer with $5 shipping. A free shipping threshold the customer's cart hasn't reached doesn't count as free shipping. And an offer that can't ship to a customer's location is never shown to that customer.
Free Returns
Customers prefer free returns, especially for often-returned items like apparel. You can offer them for your account or for specific products in Return settings.
Seller Performance
Amazon favors sellers who fulfill orders consistently and reliably. It looks at order volume (while taking steps so smaller sellers aren't disadvantaged), chargeback rate, and Voice of the Customer complaints such as damaged items, wrong items, or inaccurate descriptions. Our guide to Amazon Account Health Rating covers these metrics.
What Amazon Does Not Consider
Amazon lists three things that don't affect the ranking: customer reviews and star ratings, whether the offer has the Prime badge, and fulfillment method. If all other factors are equal, an FBA offer and a seller-fulfilled offer are equally likely to be featured.
Why Your Offer Isn't Featured
When an in-stock, shippable offer isn't featured, check price first. Amazon's Pricing Health page shows offers that are ineligible to become the Featured Offer, offers deactivated for potential pricing errors, and offers priced within 5% of the Featured Offer price.
Priced Above the Competitive External Price
An offer becomes ineligible when its total price (selling price plus shipping) is above the competitive external price, the lowest recent price Amazon found at a reputable retailer outside Amazon. This matters for private label sellers: Amazon says it may use the price of products customers would consider equivalent, with near-identical size, design, materials, and features, even if they carry a different or generic brand name.
Priced Well Above Recent Prices
An offer can also lose eligibility if it's priced significantly higher than recent prices on or off Amazon. Reference prices include the Featured Offer price, the 60-day average selling price, the product's list price, and the typical price (the 90-day median price customers paid). Amazon's Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy adds that excessive shipping fees, or charging more per unit for a multi-pack than a single unit, can cost you the Featured Offer.
Priced Too Low
Amazon may make an offer ineligible if the price looks too good to be true and ask you to confirm a suspected pricing error. Pricing Health also flags cases such as a price below the minimum price you set.
Out of Stock
An offer can't be featured while it's out of stock. Our guide to the FBA Low-Inventory-Level Fee shows how to track days of supply.

How to Win (or Win Back) the Featured Offer
- Check where you stand. On Manage All Inventory, the "Price and shipping costs" column shows whether you're the Featured Offer. View reference and business prices shows the competitive external price and lowest Amazon price.
- Clear Pricing Health. Open the Pricing Opportunities tab. Use the one-click action or edit the price directly. Price your total at or below the competitive external price, or in line with the reference prices.
- Check your margin first. Our guide to calculating your true per-unit cost walks through every fee.
- Dispute an outdated reference price. If you believe the competitive external price has changed, Amazon offers a self-service dispute through Get help and resources or Seller Assistant, with automated resolution in as little as 30 minutes.
- Turn on Automate Pricing. Amazon's free Automate Pricing tool, under Pricing in Seller Central, adjusts prices in real time with competitive rules (against the Featured Offer, lowest price, or lowest external price), sales-based rules, or business price rules. Set a minimum price to protect your margin.
- Tighten shipping and returns. Offer free shipping, keep the delivery promise specific, and consider free returns.
- Fix the causes of complaints you see in Voice of the Customer. Our guide to reducing FBA return rates covers common causes.
- Track your Featured Offer percentage in Business Reports. Amazon calculates it as page views in which your offer was featured divided by total page views for your products. Check each variation, not only the parent.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Assuming the 2026 change guarantees the Featured Offer. All sellers' offers are evaluated, but Amazon still features only competitive offers.
- Looking only at the item price. Amazon compares total price, including shipping, and rules without a minimum price can push you below cost.
- Thinking your brand protects you. The competitive external price can come from equivalent products with a different or generic brand name.
- Inflating list or multi-pack prices. Both can break the Fair Pricing Policy.
Putting It Together
The 2026 change removed one gate, but the Featured Offer still goes to the offer that's best for the customer: a competitive total price, fast and free delivery, and a clean order experience.
The key takeaways:
- Since September 2026, offers from all sellers in the US store are eligible to be evaluated for the Featured Offer
- Amazon ranks offers on total price, delivery promise, free shipping, free returns, and seller performance
- Reviews, the Prime badge, and fulfillment method are not ranking factors
- Pricing above the competitive external price or well above recent prices makes an offer ineligible
- Track your Featured Offer percentage in Business Reports and fix issues in Pricing Health
Your next step: Open Pricing Health today and review every offer on the Pricing Opportunities tab. Fix the ones that are profitable at the competitive price, set minimum prices in Automate Pricing, and check your Featured Offer percentage in Business Reports again next week.

What is the Amazon Featured Offer?
The Featured Offer is the offer shown with the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons in the Offer Display on a product detail page, an area often called the Buy Box. Amazon picks it by evaluating all offers for the product.
Are all sellers eligible for the Featured Offer now?
Yes. Amazon's US help page says that as of September 2026, it no longer maintains a seller eligibility requirement, and offers from all sellers are eligible to be evaluated. Offers still must be competitive to be featured.
Does FBA help you win the Buy Box?
Not by itself. Amazon says that if all other factors are equal, offers fulfilled by Amazon or by the merchant are equally likely to be featured, and the Prime badge isn't a factor. Fast, free shipping and a specific delivery promise help.
Why does my listing show "See options" instead of a Featured Offer?
No available offer can be featured. Common reasons are being out of stock, a price above the competitive external price or recent prices, or a price so low Amazon suspects an error. Check Pricing Health first.
Where can I see my Featured Offer percentage?
In Business Reports in Seller Central. Amazon calculates it as the page views in which your offer was featured divided by the total page views for your products.
